Chang, Frierson place 2-4 at OEC Decathlon

RIVERSIDE -- A pair of Orange Coast College men's track and field standouts -- Ivan Chang and Deuce Frierson -- finished second and fourth, respectively, at the 2024 Orange Empire Conference Multi-Event Championships, hosted by Riverside City College, on Wednesday and Thursday.

Chang took on an elite field and some unruly Wednesday weather and finished second overall with 5,222 points, just behind Riverside's Samuel Willis (5,665). Frierson finished fourth with 4,684 points, while fellow Pirate, Spencer Clark, took 7th with 4,007 points.

The Pirate trio took several top-three spots in each event. Chang and Frierson finished 1-2 in the 400-meter dash, with Chang crossing the finish line at 51.18 seconds, with Frierson close behind at 52.54.

Chang took the top spot in the 1,500 with a time of 4:45.76 (only competitor to break 5 minutes) and took second in the pole vault, clearing 10-feet, 2-inches.

Frierson and Chang went 2-3 in the 100 with Frierson taking second with a time of 11.44 and Chang a beat behind his Pirate teammate at 11.48.

Clark's top performance came in the 1,500, where he finished fourth overall with a time of 5:00.64). He also earned fifth-place marks in the 400 (54.25) and the javelin throw (104-3).

The Southern California Regional Multi-Event Finals will take place at Mt. San Antonio College on April 2-3, beginning at 8 a.m.
