Pirate men take first overall at LBCC Invitational

TORRANCE -- The Orange Coast College men's track and field team took first overall as last weekend's LBCC Post Meridiem Invitational, hosted by El Camino College.

The Pirates took the top team spot in the 14-school field with 96 points, followed by El Camino (89), Saddleback (83.50), West L.A. (80) and Glendale (78).

Coast racked up most of its points in the field events, in particular, the hammer throw, where OCC finished 1-2-3 overall.

Leading the way was Tad Desembrana, who topped his Pirate teammates as well as the rest of the field with a winning throw of 155-feet, 8-inches, followed by fellow Pirates, Sean Artist (149-3) and Joey Horton (136-10). Desembrana also earned himself a solid second-place performance in the discus throw with a mark of 132-9.

Another first-place performance for OCC came in the high jump, where Caeden Connell cleared the bar on his last attempt at 6-4 3/4 to take the top spot.

Other top-5 performances for the Pirates included Luke Lastra in the 200 (2nd, 22.63), Brandon Clark in the Javelin (3rd, 159-2), Horton in the shot put (3rd, 40-9), Zack Young in the pole vault (5th, 11-0) and OCC's 400 relay team of Lastra, Luke O'Brien, Nathan McCall and Connor Waimrin (5th, 44.3).

Up next for the Pirates will be a trip to Azusa Pacific University for the three-day Bryan Clay Meet, which begins on Thursday at 10 a.m,
