Pirates go 1-1 at GWC tourney
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College men's water polo team split its first two matches of the 2012 season on Friday, topping Mt. San Antonio 13-9, before falling to Cerritos, 12-9.
In the opener, Coast led 6-5 after three periods before finding its offense with six goals in the fourth. Leading the way for the Pirates was Trevor McGhie with four goals, while Kyle Sullivan added two.
In the second game, Cerritos jumped out to a 6-2 lead after the first period and led 11-4 before another late run by OCC (5-1) in the fourth trimmed the final outcome. McGhie had two goals, as did teammates Shane Pickels and Kevin Masone.
The Pirates will open up Orange Empire Conference action on Wednesday at home against Saddleback, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
