Pirates take fifth at Fresno Invitational

FRESNO -- Another week, another solid performance turned in by the Orange Coast College men's cross country team, courtesy of a fifth-place team finish at the 2013 Fresno Invitational on Saturday at Woodward Park.

Coast finished with a team score of 137 in the 17-team field, trailing only American River (40 points), Mt. San Antonio (68), Glendale (104) and College of the Canyons (130).

The Pirates had two runners -- Jose Ortiz and Lucio Ramirez -- crack the top-20 on the four-mile course. Ortiz clocked in with a time of 21 minutes, 34.79, edging out Ramirez (21:34.93) at the wire.

Another surge of orange and blue came 20 seconds later when Luis Morales (21:59.84), Ryan Ogan (22:00.4) and Christopher Harlan (22:02.75) finished 32nd, 33rd and 35th, respectively.

Other top times for the Pirates include Jesus Valdez (22:15.28), Jay Bonthius (22:19.9), Omar Cisneros (22:59.87), Michael Martinez (23:15.86), Justin Larios (23:24.17), Connor Garcia (24:19.06) and Cesar Galvez (25:49.51).

The Pirates will return to action on Friday at the Southern California Preview Meet, held at Carbon Canyon Park, beginning at 9 a.m.
