Contreras takes fifth at Vanguard Invitational
FOUNTAIN VALLEY -- The Orange Coast College men's cross country team placed fourth overall at the 27th annual Vanguard Cross Country Invitational, raced at Mile Square Park on Saturday.
Leading the way for the Pirates was Shawn Contreras, who conquered the 3-mile course in fifth place overall, with a time of 25 minutes, 55.2 seconds.
Two other Pirates -- Hector Leon and Colin Takushi -- each cracked the top-20 in the 54-runner field. Leon finished 16th overall with a time of 27:57.9, while Takushi clocked in 18th overall with a time of 28:37.2.
Noah Holguin (22nd, 28:42.3) and Zachary Dignan (23rd, 28:45.4) also earned points for the Pirates, while other solid times were turned in by Sebastian Chaves (30:17.5), Oscar Gatica (30:24.6) and Gerardo Orbe (33:23.1).
The Pirates will return to action on Friday at the Cal State Fullerton Titan Invitational, beginning at 5 p.m.
