Pirate men take top spot at Cerritos Invitational

CERRITOS -- The Orange Coast College men's cross country team continued to set the pace as the Pirates won the 2019 Cerritos Falcons Invitational on Friday morning.

The Pirates, paced by five top-12 point performances, led the way with a team score of 29 points. The host Falcons were a distant second place with 66 points, followed by Pasadena City (116), Santa Ana (122) and Fullerton (123).

The OCC freshmen trio of Tyler Savely, Andrew Lopez and Brian Soriano-Guzman finished 5th, 6th and 7th, respectively against a top-tiered list of runners. Savely conquered the four-mile course in 20 minutes, 7.9 seconds, the second-fastest time among the community college teams in the event. Lopez was right behind Savely with a time of 20:12.7, while Soriano-Guzman came in at 20:13.3.

Yuki Watanabe earned eight points with a 12th-place time of 20:48.4, while teammate Pedro Antunez received 12 points with an 18th-place time of 21:14.1.

Other solid times for the Pirates included Adam Angel (21:38.6), Joseph Pena (22:13), Jacob Skytte (22:57.6), Kevin Carrera (23:25.5), Anthony Osorio, 23:49.2, Gavin McNeill (24:27.4), Israel Delibrado (28:41.9) and Ernesto Zepeda (32:28.8).

The Pirates will head off to Irvine Park in Orange to compete at the Vanguard Invitational on Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m.
