McIntyre's 27 points lead Pirates to rout over Rustlers, 98-54

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Bridgette McIntyre had a team-best 27 points to lead the defending state champion Orange Coast College women's basketball team to a convincing 98-54 Orange Empire Conference road win over rival Golden West College on Friday night at GWC.

McIntyre went 10-of-18 from the floor, including seven made 3-pointers and added four rebounds, three assists and three steals for the state's fourth-ranked Pirates (13-3, 2-0 in the OEC). Jordan Arreola added 22 points, while Sabrina Lopez notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to go along with seven assists. Off the bench, Alyssa Dreessen had seven points and nine rebounds, while Hailey Estrada led the Pirates with 12 rebounds in just 23 minutes of work.

The Pirate defense went to work from the opening whistle and forced 26 turnovers, while holding the Rustlers (11-5, 1-1) to 22-of-71 from the floor. On the boards, Coast held a Rustler team that averaged nearly 60 rebounds a game to just 39 for the night.

Coast grabbed the lead after the opening tip and never looked back, jumping out to a 15-0 lead over the first four-plus minutes of the game. Five different Pirates scored points over that span alone and the rout was on.

OCC led 54-25 at the half and watched the lead grow to as many as 49 points late in the third quarter at 89-40.

Up next for the Pirates is a home matchup against Cypress College on Wednesday, beginning at 6 p.m. inside the Peterson Gym.
