Coast crew claims Collins Cup!

NEWPORT BEACH -- The Orange Coast College women's crew captured the 2015 Collins Cup by sweeping the varsity field on Saturday morning on the Newport Harbor.

In the Varsity Eight race, the Pirates topped UC Irvine with a winning 2,000-meter time of 7 minutes, 5 seconds. Coast was led by eight outstanding rowers -- Lauren Davis, Abigail Daniels, Kara Ramsey, Tess Burney, Alexandra Cornwell, Jesselyn Voysey, Melody Garisek, Hannah Grunbaum and coxswain Sara Ioffrida.

According to head coach Laura Behr, five of these rowers who are graduating from OCC at the end of this semester are going to row at four-year universities and have earned rowing scholarships.

In the Varsity Four race, Coast again earned a hard-fought victory over UC, led by rowers Kaylee Goff, McKenna Stephens, Tracy McDonald, Megan Anderson and coxswain Tiffany Zahabi.

The Pirates will take their talents on the road and compete at the 2015 SIRAs in Oakridge, Tennessee this upcoming weekend.
