PALM DESERT -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team made the trek to the desert worth while as the Pirates earned a 3-0 shutout win over host College of the Desert on Friday night.
Coast (5-2) jumped ahead early when Chantelle Sanchez took a feed from Olivia Hostetler and scored in the 11th minute, putting the Pirates ahead for good.
Hostetler earned her second assist of the night when she fed a pass to Grace Boyce, who found the back of the net in the 19th minute, putting OCC ahead 2-0 after the first half.
OCC's third goal of the night came in the 82nd minute when Sanchez slipped a pass to Finley Doucette, who buried her shot into the goal to make it 3-0.
That would be more than enough for the Pirates as the defense and goalkeeper tandem of Samantha Ortega (three saves) and Layla Cash (six saves) preserved the shutout win.
The Pirates will return to action on Friday at home against Cerritos College, beginning at 3 p.m.
