Quality times highlight first OEC Invite

COSTA MESA -- Orange Coast College was the site for Friday's first (of two) Orange Empire Conference invitationals and once the races wrapped up, several solid times were posted by several Pirate women's swimmers.

Giselle Quinonez picked up two impressive individual top times, as did Pirate teammate Yuuri Yoshikawa.

Quinonez posted the quickest mark in the 200-yard freestyle with a winning time of 2 minutes, 7.49 seconds. She then stepped things up and dominated the rest of the pool in the 1,650 free with a time of 19:15.99, a full 30 seconds ahead of OCC teammate and runner-up Gabriella Hester (19.45.99).

Yoshikawa took care of business in the 100 breaststroke with a winning time of 1:12.78 before staking claim in the 200 breast with a time of 2:41.56.

Sude Yilmazturk touched the wall first in the 100 back with a time of 1:03.63, while in the 200 back, it was Delaney Lewellyn (2:21.49) and Yamamoto (2:24.16) with a 1-2 finish for the Pirates. Yamamoto also took third overall in the 100 back with a time of 1:04.52.

Alaire Thomas was the top swimmer in the 200 butterlfy with a time of 2:35.95, while in the 200 medley relay, the foursome of Yamamoto, Yoshikawa, Yilmazturk and Quinonez rolled to victory with a time of 1:57.22.

Coast will return to the pool on Friday out in Riverside for the Riverside City College Invitational, beginning at 10 a.m.
