Pirates perform well at PCC Invitational

PASADENA -- The Orange Coast College women's swim team posted some strong times in just one day's work at the 2022 Pasadena City College Invitational on Friday.

Leading the way for the Pirates was standout Giselle Quinonez, who won the 500-yard freestyle by over nine seconds and touched the wall first with a time of 5 minutes, 24.21 seconds.

Quinonez, who finished third in the 200 free (2:04.58), also anchored OCC's victorious 800 freestyle relay team, joining Delaney Lewellyn, Yuuri Yoshikawa and Kayla Yamamoto for a winning time of 8:18.2, a full 11 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Another first-place performance came from fellow Pirate, Sydni White, who set the pace in the 200 backstroke with a winning time of 2:22.53.

In spite of competing in just one day's worth of events, the Pirates still earned a fourth-place point total of 320 pints for the entire invitational.

For the Pirate divers, Coast will compete on Friday and Saturday at the SoCal Dive Championships, hosted by El Camino College, at 12 p.m. As for the rest of the Pirates, they will return to the water April 21-23 for the Orange Empire Conference Championships, hosted by Riverside City College.
