Pirates crush Cuyamaca in season opener
EL CAJON -- The Orange Coast College women's tennis team lost a grand total of TWO games the entire afternoon and made quick work of host Cuyamaca College, 9-0, in the Pirates' 2015 season opener on Tuesday afternoon.
In singles play, sophomore Hali Dickson sparked the Pirates with a 6-0, 6-0 win over CC's Amy Nicholson. From there, fellow Pirates Sarah Sampouw (6-0, 6-1), Emily Nickles (6-0, 6-0), Natusuki Tanaka (6-1, 6-0), Maddy Akil (6-0, 6-0) and Lindsay Clawson (6-0, 6-0) cruised to victory.
It was more of the same in doubles play as Dickson/Nickles (8-0), Sampouw/Tanaka (8-0) and Akil/Clawson (8-0) each earned shutout victories.
The Pirates will look to make it 2-0 on Thursday at home against Palomar, beginning at 2 p.m.
