Dickson named ITA Sophomore Player of the Year

OJAI -- Orange Coast College women's tennis standout Hali Dickson wrapped up her Coast career after advancing to the state singles quarterfinals last weekend and was named the International Tennis Association (ITA) Sophomore Player of the Year.

Dickson, who went undefeated in Orange Empire Conference (10-0) en route to the OEC singles title, advanced to the "elite eight" of the state tournament before falling to College of the Desert's Leticia Dos Santos, 7-5, 6-1. She finished the season 21-3 overall in singles competition and 12-8 in doubles play.

Dickson's state tourney run started in the Round of 64, where as a No. 6 seed, she topped Judy Ung, 6-2, 6-2. From there, she posted victories over Nikki Tigas (6-1, 6-0) in the Round of 32 and earned an upset win over No. 3 seed Vanessa Teves, 7-6, 6-4, in the Round of 16.
