Koitka, Veltri punch tickets to State Women's Tennis Tournament

CYPRESS -- Orange Coast College women's tennis standout Logan Koitka qualified for the upcoming CCCAA State Championships in singles, while herself and playing partner Madeleine Veltri will represent the Pirates in doubles play after their strong performances at the Southern California Regional Tennis Championships on Friday and Saturday at Cypress College.

With eight singles and doubles earning a spot at the CCCAA State Championships (May 5-6 at Mt. San Antonio College), it took wins in the Sweet 16 to get the job done for this Pirate duo.

In singles play, Koitka earned a first-round bye before topping Glendale College's Siya Joshi, 6-2, 6-4 in the Round of 32. The freshman standout then defeated Saddleback's Raya Johnson, 6-2, 5-0 (retired) to qualify for state.

Koitka and Veltri took care of business in doubles play for OCC as well, topping Nicole Lule/Daisy Haro of Rio Hondo, 6-0, 6-1 before topping Ashley Vallarta/Lexi Paunovic of College of the Canyons, 7-6, 6-4, in a hard-fought win, earning the state spot.

Congrats to all of the Pirates who qualified for the Southern California Regionals and took part in the event, including Veltri and Jade Moreno in singles and Moreno/Tiffany Tu in doubles. In addition to the women who qualified, so did OCC men's players Kai Rodriguez in singles play and Rodriguez/Yuta Kawabata in doubles.
