Pirates top the field at the OEC Invitational

COMPLETE RESULTS 

RIVERSIDE -- The early portion of the 2022 season is off to a great start for the Orange Coast College women's track and field team, who topped the field at Friday's Orange Empire Conference Invitational with a team score of 176 points.

While there were several highlights on Friday for the Pirates, perhaps the most impressive performance came in the women's 5,000, where distance specialist McKay Arvidson literally lapped the field en route to a winning time of 19 minutes, 00.36 seconds. Her time was nearly TWO MINUTES faster than the rest of the field. Arvidson also took second overall in the 1,500 with a time of 5:05.68.

The most impressive team performance came in the javelin throw, where OCC went 1-2-3-4-5 in the event. Leading the way was Leilani Cooley, who topped the field with a threw of 91-feet, 3-inches, followed by fellow Pirates Makenna Collins (86-7), Jacqueline Ryder (75-1), Brooklyn Margarit (61-6) and Minami Cheever (60-3). 

Cooley also took second in the hammer throw (113-9), while Collins placed second in the shot put (30-9 1/4).

Another 1-2 finish occurred in the high jump with Tylor Eddleman leading the way with a jump of 4-11, followed close behind by Pirate teammate Nicolette Gruber (4-9).

It was a 2-3 finish for Coast in the pole vault with Kayley Frye taking second with a jump of 9-10, followed by Angelica Gavia (8-10 3/4).

In the 100, sprinter Razanne Dawood went up against some tough competition and finished third overall with a time of 13.1.

Coast will return to action on Friday and Saturday at Long Beach State for the CSULB Invitational, beginning at 1 p.m.
