
Coast staying close with Riverside at OEC Track & Field finals
COSTA MESA -- In the early stages, the Orange Coast College women's track and field team is keep close tabs on front-runner Riverside City College through seven events of the 2025 Orange Empire Conference Track and Field Championships, hosted by OCC.
Through seven finals, including the heptathlon, the Pirates currently sit in second place with 85.50 points, with Riverside in front with 132.50. Saddleback (16 points), Golden West (4 points), Fullerton (4 points) and Santa Ana (1 point) make up the rest of the OEC standings.
During Friday's Day 1 of events, OCC's Abigail Gavrilovic successfully defended her OEC title in the discus throw, taking the top spot with a throw of 138 feet-3 inches, well clear of runner-up Esra Mor of RCC (133-7).
Gavrilovic also earned herself a silver medal in the shot put with a second-place throw of 37-6 3/4, just behind RCC's Victoria Redd (38-7 3/4).
It was a 2-3 finish for the Pirates in the high jump, where Sara Chupinsky picked up the silver medal after clearing 4-9, while Nikki Witana clearned 4-7 for the bronze.
In the 10,000 meters, distance standout Liberty Miller earned a silver medal with a solid time of 39 minutes, 55.31 seconds, trailing only RCC's Nadia Munoz (39:22.51) for the conference's top time.

Day 2 of the OEC finals take place on Saturday at OCC, beginning at 9 a.m. with the field events and 1 p.m. with the running events.
