Pirates take third at OEC Meet

FULLERTON -- Even shorthanded, the Orange Coast College women's cross country team put forth a solid effort at the 2014 Orange Empire Conference Meet and finished third overall with 85 points on Friday at Craig Park.

Riverside City College claimed the 2014 title with a team score of 33 points, while Saddleback (52 points) finished second. 

Leading the way for the Pirates on Friday was sophomore Nisreen Rizk, who finished the 5K course in fifth place with a time of 18 minutes, 34.18 seconds.

Freshman standout Janessa Reyes showed improvements throughout the year and finished ninth overall with a time of 19:07.3, while Daysi Vazquez (15th, 19:27.2), Bianca Moreno (24th, 20:17.8) and Lydia Roth (35th, 21:13.6) complete OCC's individual scores.

Up next for the Pirate cross country program is a trip to Van Nuys for the 2014 Southern California Regional Meet, which takes place on Friday, beginning at 9 a.m.
