Rizk finishes strong at CCCAA state meet

FRESNO -- Orange Coast College sophomore women's cross country standout Nisreen Rizk qualified for last weekend's California Community College Athletic Association's State Meet and finished in the top-30 to cap off a solid two-year career with the Pirates.

In a year of ups and downs for the women's team as a whole, the one constant for the Pirates has been ther performance of Rizk, who finished with the fourth-fastest time among individual qualifiers, crossing the finish line of the 5K course with a time of 19 minutes, 6.9 seconds -- good enough for 26th place among all 197 runners in the race.

Among other individual qualifiers in the state, only Palomar's Jessica Steinhoff (18:51), Santa Monica's Madison Bird (19:00.2) and Sacramento's Elizabeth Hiers (19:02.7) ran faster times than Rizk.

Rizk earned her spot in Fresno after another top-30 finish at the Southern California Regionals, where she finished 27th with a time of 19:30.6.
