Pirate women finish 10th at SoCal Preview

ORANGE -- The Orange Coast College women's cross country team took on some of the top teams in the region and posted solid times at the 2016 Southern California Preview Meet, held at Irvine Park on Friday.

Led by a 10th-place finish by sophomore standout Alyssa Allen, Coast finished ninth overall with a team score of 323 points. Glendale (27 points) won the event handily, followed by Mt. San Antonio (146), College of the Canyons (210), Saddleback (213) and Riverside (222).

Allen used a solid 6:15/mile pace to take 10th with a time of 19 minutes, 27.8 seconds. Fellow sophomore Bethani Heising finished 29th with a time of 20:11.4, while Karen Cruz placed 60th with a time of 21:25.3. 

Other top times for the Pirates include Jennilee Reyes (22:49.2), Tarah Buckels (23:47.9), Elizabeth Diaz Cortes (24:27.6) and Juana Ramirez (25:45.4).

The Pirates will return to action on Friday at the Golden West Invitational, held at Central Park in Huntington Beach, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
