Allen earns All-American honors for Pirates at State Meet
FRESNO -- Sophomore standout Alyssa Allen earned All-American honors for Orange Coast College after a ninth-place finish at the California Community College Athletic Association State Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Woodward Park.
Allen took on the state's best and finished the 5K course with a time of 18 minutes, 37.4 seconds, joining 14 others on this year's All-American list.
Allen's solid time helped lead the Pirates to a 15th-place team finish with 410 points. Other top times for the Pirates included Bethani Heising (19:32), Karen Cruz (20:34), Jennilee Reyes (21:59), Elizabeth Diaz Cortes (22:57.7) and Tarah Buckels (23:43.6).
Glendale College used three top-10 finishes to win the state crown with 42 points, while individually, Cuesta College's Miranda Daschian took home the gold medal with a time of 17:52.7, the lone sub-18-minute time of the meet.
