Pirates top Gauchos, fall to Tigers in OEC tri-matchup
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College women's beach volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday at the Newland Courts. The Pirates fell to Riverside, 4-1, before topping Saddleback, 5-0.
Against the Tigers, Coast (2-2 overall) picked up its lone win in convincing fashion as the team of Susie Packard and Lauren Wilson toppled RCC's Amanda Barker and Bethany Walsh, 21-13, 21-9. Diana Che and Tiffany Boykin pushed the Tigers' duo of Lauren Wells and Yaleina Fernandez to a third set with a 21-13 win in set No. 2, but fell in the third, 15-8.
Against Saddleback, OCC made quick work of the short-handed Gauchos squad that featured only three teams. Packard and Wilson dominated in a 21-6, 21-8 win, as did the team of Che and Boykin (21-7, 21-5). In the No. 1 slot, the team of Danyelle Brown and Alyssa Assayag toppled Saddleback's Morgan Hocker and Chasticy Gonzales, 21-10, 21-15.
The Pirates will take on El Camino at ECC on Wednesday, beginning at 1 p.m. before hosting MiraCosta and Long Beach on Friday at the Newland Courts, beginning at 10 a.m.
