Buede, Boykin advance to State Beach Volleyball Tournament
COSTA MESA -- The duo of Adelle Buede and Tiffany Boykin have led the way for the Orange Coast College beach volleyball team and this weekend, this Pirates pair will represent OCC at the California Community College Athletic Association State Beach Volleyball Championships, hosted by Grossmont College.
Boykin and Buede will begin their trek through the state tournament bracket on Saturday at 10 a.m. against Feather River College's Stacey Witt and Jessica Martinez in Match 16.
The winner of that match will take on the winner of Match 15, which features the El Camino duo of Taylor Brydon and Brooke Russell and MiraCosta College's Breanna Kirklen and Kyra Henderson.
While Coast has struggled as a collective group (3-7 overall), Boykin and Buede have put together a solid 2016 season that has been rewarded with a trip to the state tournament.
In the Orange Empire Conference tournament, the Pirate pair opened things with a 21-9, 22-20 win over Golden West's Baileigh Graham and Kelsey Osgood in the Round of 32.
After winning in the Round of 16, Boykin and Buede topped Riverside City College's Sabrina Gonzaga and Marisa Viapando in the Elite 8 to advance to the conference semifinals. There, they lost to GWC's Jasmine Hogan and Jill Pineda, but still qualified for state with their strong effort.
