Pirates rally late for 6-5 win over Mounties

WALNUT -- The Orange Coast College baseball team bounced back from a disastrous game against Palmoar and used a four-run eighth inning to slip past host Mt. San Antonio, 6-5, on Saturday, in a nonconference matchup.

Coast (9-3) fell behind 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh, but responded quickly with a four-run eighth to regain the lead, 6-4.

A walk by Taylor Takata and a single off the bat of Zach Leite put runners on first and third with nobody out. Zach Dickason brought in both runners, courtesy of a Mountie error, tying the game at 4. After a Jaden Lyburtus single and stolen base put runners on second and third with two outs, J.T. Crabbe came through with a clutch, two-run single to center to put the Pirates up for good.

The Mounties (4-7) had runners on second and third with only one out in the bottom of the ninth, but relievers Chase Rousselo and Lyndon Glidewell held the hosts to a sacrifice fly and a fly out to right to end the game and preserve the win for Coast.

Crabbe went 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI for OCC, while starting pitcher Jack Ross threw 6 2/3 innings of solid pitching, allowing just four runs (three earned) on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

OCC will play at Southwestern College on Tuesday (1 p.m.) before returning to John Altobelli Park to host Long Beach City College. That game, originally schedule for Thursday, will now be played on WEDNESDAY, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
