Pirates split a pair at SD City Tournament

SAN DIEGO -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team kicked off the 2018-19 season this past weekend at the San Diego City College Tournament and the Pirates split their two games with a loss to Citrus (104-52) and a win over Barstow (97-87).

After a rough opening-game loss to the Owls, the Pirates bounced back nicely against the Vikings. Leonard Stallings led OCC with 30 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Malik Skillern added 25 points, five assists and six steals.

Coast drained 17 3-pointers against Barstow (17-of-41) after hitting just 3-of-18 from beyond the arc against Citrus. Jonathan Ileleji added 16 points for OCC, while Britt Booker came off the bench for 11 points and four steals.

Greg Walter led the Vikings (0-2) with 23 points and 20 rebounds, but it was the OCC defense that came alive in the matchup, forcing 37 Barstow turnovers, including a game-high 10 by Walter.

Coast will play at home on Thursday against Miramar College, beginning at 5 p.m.
