Pirates fall to Jets in home opener

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team lost its home opener on Thursday night to visiting Miramar College, 103-63, in a nonconference matchup played inside the Peterson Gym.

Miramar (4-0) came out red hot right from the opening whistle and didn't let up, shooting over 60 percent from the floor (43-of-70), including 10 3-pointers. 

Coast (1-2) tried to keep up with the Jets, but the baskets struggled to fall as the Pirates shot just 36 percent from the floor (23-of-64) and just 5-of-19 from 3-point range (26.3 percent). 

Jonathan Ileleji led the Pirates with 13 points and five rebounds, while Brian Self added 10 points in 13 minutes off the bench.

Blake Seits, who entered Thursday's game as one of the top scorers in the state (27.3 points per game), scored 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds and six assists for the Jets. Cole Cummings added 15 points, while Artis Champan came off the bench and provided 12 points and five rebounds.

Coast will return to action on Friday, Nov. 23 at the Palomar College Tournament against the host Comets, beginning at 7 p.m. OCC will be on the road for the next several weeks before returning to the Peterson Gym on Wednesday, Jan. 23 against Saddleback, beginning at 5 p.m.
