Pirates take care of business with 103-92 win over Golden West

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team continued its strong and steady play with a 103-92 Orange Empire Conference win over host Golden West College on Friday.

The win keeps the Pirates (16-10, 8-6 in the OEC) right in the think of things in the five-team log-jam near the top of the conference standings. Following conference-champ Fullerton, Cypress (9-5), Saddleback (9-6), OCC (8-6), Santiago Canyon (8-6) and Riverside (8-6) are all vying for the highest spot possible to earn a potential spot in the upcoming Southern California Regional playoffs.

The trio of Sam Hunter (27 points, six rebounds), Jydon Hall (26 points, five rebounds, six assists) and Logen Howard (21 points, four rebounds) did the majority of the damage for the Pirates against the struggling Rustlers (3-22, 1-13). Noel Camejo led GWC with 24 points.

The Coast defense applied the pressure on the Rustlers throughout the game and forced 18 turnovers with led to 23 OCC points.

The Pirates came out strong in the first half and carried a 49-34 advantage at the break. The Rustlers pushed to within four at 67-63 midway through the second half, but OCC never allowed GWC to get any closer the rest of the way.

OCC will wrap up the regular season at home against Santa Ana on Tuesday (7 p.m.) and against Santiago Canyon on Thursday (7 p.m.).
