Pirate golfers return to the top of the OEC mountain
CHINO HILLS -- The Orange Coast College men's golf team captured the Orange Empire Conference championship for the sixth time in seven years after wrapping up the 36-hole event on April 25 at Los Serranos Golf Club.
The Pirates (44-11) placed second behind Santiago Canyon in the morning round with a 377, but won the afternoon session with a 395, despite worsening conditions throughout the afternoon.
Leading the way for OCC was this year's Conference Player of the Year, Marcus De La Rosa, who was the individual medalist with a two-round score of 149 (77-72). Teammate Jordan Meas carded a 155 (77-78), while other top Coast scores were turned in by Connor Hurst (78-81-159), Austin Briggs (75-85-160), Jeremy Dorff (83-82-165) and Justin Collins (84-82-166).
OCC reigned atop the conference standings for five years in a row (2010-2014) before finishing second in 2015.
The Pirates will return to action on Monday for the Southern California Regional Championships. The one-day, 36-hole format is set for the Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Top teams and individuals from the regional championship will advance to the CCCAA State Championship which will take place on Monday, May 16, at the Desert Island Golf & Country Club in Palm Springs, also at 7:30 a.m.
