Pirates take second place at Southern California Invitational

OCEANSIDE -- The Orange Coast College men's golf team took on 18 other schools at the 2017 Southern California Invitational on Tuesday and the Pirates returned home with a solid second-place team score of 378.

Coast finished just one shot off the lead, trailing only Saddleback (377) for the final standings. Fellow Orange Empire Conference foe, Riverside, took third with a 380, while Ventura (383) and Cypress rounded out the top five.

Only four shots separated the entire OCC squad throughout the afternoon, with Myles Valentine leading the way with a 2-over-par, 74. Josh McCollum and Justin Collins each shot a 75, Tetsu Kase fired a 76 and Jeremy Dorff and Takahito Inoue each came in with a 78.

In the "Clash of the Conferences" matchup, the Orange Empire Conference's top five scores totalled 364, eight shots better than the Western States Conference (372) and 19 better than the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (383).

The Pirates will return to conference action on Monday as RCC hosts the next OEC matchup at Victoria Country Club, beginning at 7 a.m.
