Shorthanded Pirates take third at host OEC event

COSTA MESA -- In a tightly contested Orange Empire Conference matchup the Orange Coast College men's golf team had to settle for a third-place result on Wednesday at the Pirates' home event of the season, played at Costa Mesa Country Club.

Without the services of standout golfer Tetsu Kase, the Pirates shot a team score of 377, which tied Cypress for the afternoon. But in the tiebreaker, Cypress' No. 6 golfer shot better than the No. 6 OCC player, giving the Chargers the No. 2 spot for the afternoon. Riverside carded a team score of 374 and jumped two wins ahead of OCC for first place in the OEC standings.

Justin Collins shot the low round of the day for the Pirates, carding an even-par 72 on the Los Lagos course. Jeremy Dorff was close behind with a 74, while Taka Inoue (76), Josh McCollum (77), Jed Enomoto (78) and Myles Valentine (80) rounded out the scores for the Pirates.

Coast will return to action on Wednesday in another OEC matchup, hosted by Irvine Valley at Oak Creek Golf Club, beginning at 1 p.m.
