Pirates take care of business to capture OEC Title!

CHINO HILLS -- With 43 team wins this season, the Orange Coast College men's golf team finished on top of the Orange Empire Conference standings for the seventh time in nine seasons after an impressive performance at the 36-hole OEC Finals, played at Los Serranos Golf Club.

Coast (43-6), finished four wins ahead of runner-up Cypress (39-11), followed by Riverside (23-27), Mt. San Antonio (23-27), Sadldeback (22-28) and Irvine Valley.

In the morning round, both OCC and Cypress came in with a team score of 361, with Cypress earning the edge on the extra golfer (77-82). In the afternoon session, the Pirates rolled to a nine-stroke win over the Chargers to post the winning team score of 375.

Leading the Pirates in the final event was sophomore standout Bryson Bentley, who carded a 4-under-par 68 in the morning round and an even-par 74 in the afternoon for a two-round total of 4-under, 142.

Myoung Kim, who earned OEC Co-Golfer of the Year with Cypress College's Matt Rafter, shot a 73-74-147, as did teammate Taka Inoue (70-77-147). Both Kim and Rafter both averaged 73.8 strokes per round, the lowest among all OEC golfers for the season.

Connor O'Hern shot a 1-under 73 in the afternoon to finish with a two round total of 75-73-148, followed by fellow Pirates Chris Casey (75-77-152) and Mike Stephens (82-80-162).

OCC, Riverside and Mt. San Antonio will advance their teams to the Southern California Regional championship at Bakersfield Country Club.
