Pirates roll past Roadrunners, 3-1

COSTA MESA -- The 2013 season is underway for the Orange Coast College men's soccer team and the Pirates came out strong and posted a 3-1 nonconference win over visiting Rio Hondo College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Pirates came out strong in the opening minutes and took a 1-0 lead when Pedro Erhechury found the back of the net off of a pass from Jorge Sanchez in the game's ninth minute.

Just two minutes later, OCC made it 2-0 when Garrett Stiffler-Greasby fed a nice pass to Tyler Rios and the sophomore beat the Roadrunner goalkeeper with a solid shot.

Finally, in the 75th minute, Coast notched its third goal of the game when Rios took a feed from Jacob Rushing and again found the back of the net for his second tally of the afternoon.

That was more than enough for sophomore goalkeeper Connor Nelson, who allowed just one goal and notched six saves during the contest.

The Pirates will return to action on Friday at home against L.A. Harbor, beginning at 4 p.m.
