Beldi's hat trick propels Pirates past Chargers, 4-0

COSTA MESA -- Achref Beldi scored three goals to lead the Orange Coast College men's soccer team to a 4-0 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Cypress on Tuesday at OCC Soccer Complex.

Nicholas Cardenas added a penalty kick goal for the Pirates (8-7-4, 6-5-2 in conference), while assists were provided by Cardenas, Kensho Adachi and Luis Anaya.

After a slow start to the match against the shorthanded Chargers (1-17, 0-12), Beldi's first goal of the game off an Anaya assist in the 18th minute put the Pirates on the scoreboard and led, 1-0.

The Chargers nearly evened the match just a few minutes later when a shot slipped past the OCC goalkeeper Thiago Lino Da Costa (one save) and was rolling towards the goal, but defender Cayden Bonner came to the rescue and kicked the ball out of danger to preserve the lead.

From there, the Pirates were not threatened again and the offense found its way with three second-half goals to blow the match open.

With the win, OCC moves into fourth place in a crowded Orange Empire Conference, but OCC only has one match remaining, while others still have 2-3 matches to earn points.

Coast will wrap up the regular season at Norco College on Tuesday, at 3 p.m.
