Pirates off to strong start
VICTOR VALLEY -- The Orange Coast College men's tennis team is off and running to kick off the 2020 season and last week, the Pirates rolled to a pair of 9-0 nonconference wins against Victor Valley and Imperial Valley.
The Pirates (4-3 overall) rolled with six straight wins in singles play as Lucas Frietas (6-2, 6-1), Ryan Mulrooney (6-1, 6-4), Daniel Zerlotti (6-1, 6-1), Faress Sorial (6-2, 6-1), Jake Hastings (6-3, 6-1) and Huy Tran (6-1, 6-2) cruised to straight-set wins.
In doubles play, the teams of Mulrooney/Zerlotti (8-3), Chris Nero/Nick Tran (8-3) and Tony Lee/Joseph Rojas (8-7) completed the nine-match sweep over Victor Valley.
OCC will return to the Costa Mesa Tennis Center on Tuesday to kick off Orange Empire Conference play against Irvine Valley College, beginning at 2 p.m.
