Pirates roll to 7-2 win over Gauchos

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's tennis team used a pair of tiebreaker wins to spark a 7-2 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Saddleback on Tuesday at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center.

OCC picked up straight-set wins in the first three singles matches, courtesy of Lucas Freitas (6-1, 7-6), Ryan Mulrooney (6-1, 6-0) and Daniel Zerlotti (6-0, 6-2). But for Coast, the turning point of the afternoon came in the fifth and sixth singles matches as Jake Hastings (6-4, 4-6, 11-9) and Faress Sorial (6-7, 6-4, 7-6) picked up pivotal third-set wins to give the Pirates a 5-1 lead heading into doubles. 

In doubles play, the teams of Mulrooney/Zerlotti (8-4) and Freits/Huy Tran (8-6) picked up wins for OCC (6-7, 1-3 in OEC).

OCC will return to action on Thursday at Irvine Valley College, beginning at 2 p.m. Coast will return to the CMTC on Friday against Bakersfield, also at 2 p.m.
