Pirates edge Mt. San Jacinto, 5-4

COSTA MESA -- It was a long, but successful day of tennis for the Orange Coast College Pirates as they outlasted Mt. San Jacinto, 5-4, in a nonconference matchup played at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center..

OCC needed a pair of tiebreaker wins in singles to even things at 3 apiece heading into doubles play. Coast's No. 1 singles player, Lucas Freitas, pulled out a 7-6, 4-6, (10-5) win over MSJC's Permin Blanco, while at No. 6, Fariss Sorial dropped the opening set before rallying for a 4-6, 6-1, (10-1) win. OCC's Daniel Zerlotti had the easier of the three wins as he swept his way to a 6-3, 6-3 win.

In doubles play, the Pirates (5-6) picked up the two wins needed to prevail as the team of Zerlotti and Ryan Mulrooney won, 8-2, while Huy Tran and Jake Hastings pulled off a 9-7 win in No. 3 doubles.

The Pirates will return to Orange Empire Conference action on Tuesday at the CMTC against Saddleback, beginning at 2 p.m.
