Pirate men remain unbeaten through three dual meets

MISSION VIEJO -- The strong 2014-15 season continues for the Orange Coast College men's track and field program, thanks to another pair of wins over Saddleback and Golden West on Friday, improving the Pirates' record to 6-0 overall through three dual meets.

Led by seven first-place performances, the Pirates edged Saddleback, 78-76, and defeated Golden West, 99.5-49.5, to remain perfect for the season.

With the Gauchos and Pirates going back and forth in the team standings, the win was sealed for OCC in the 3,000 meters when Lucio Ramirez and Brandon Ferguson picked up the necessary points for the Coast victory. Ramirez won the race with a time of 8 minutes, 55.04 seconds, while Ferguson finished third with a time of 9:08.51.

Sprinter Kyle White was OCC's lone dual winner, claiming first place in the 100 with a time of 11.01 and the 200 with time of 22.59.

Coast teammate Gregory Warner picked up the top spot in the 400 with a time of 51.25, while Eamon Smythe won the 800 with a 1:58.42 -- the only runner to break the two-minute mark in the race.

In the 110 hurdles, OCC standout Noah Rogers topped the field with a time of 15.45, while in the high jump, Hunter Kist won the event after clearing 6-feet, 2 3/4 inches.

The Pirates will take a week off from competition before returning to action on Friday, March 6 at the Cal State Los Angeles Invitational, beginning at 9 a.m.
