Gibbons leads Pirates in OEC Decathlon

COSTA MESA -- Sophomore Justin Gibbons competed with the top athletes in the Orange Empire Conference and finished second in the decathlon at last weekend's OEC multi-event competition.

Gibbons, who topped the field in the 110-meter hurdles (15.57 seconds) and cracked the top-four in six other events, finished the two-day decathlon with 5,549 points, topped only by Riverside's Jherrell Charles (6,163). Santiago Canyon's David Rosenbaum (5,316) finished third, while RCC's Joseph Bailey (5,294) and Cole Hicks (5,290) rounded out the top five.

In the javelin throw, Gibbons placed second overall with a throw of 140-feet, 1/4 inch and placed third in the discus (104-4) and high jump (5-9 3/4). His fourth-place times came in the 100 (11.62), shot put (32-2 1/4) and 400 (52.52).

A trio of Pirates -- Daniel McNabb (5,114), Tommy Duong (4,951) and Noah Rogers (4,87104-1) finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
