Pirate men fare well at Cerritos Invitational

NORWALK -- Several solid times and marks were recorded by the Orange Coast College men's track and field team at the 2015 Cerritos Invitational on Saturday.

Leading the way for the Pirates was the performance of pole vaulter Kyle Victoria, who topped the entire field when he cleared 14-feet, 7 1/2 inches. Teammate Jason McKinnon was close behind with a second-place mark of 13-10 3/4.

Sprinter Kyle White took on some of the top speedsters in the area in 100 meters and nearly claimed victory, but settled for third with a time of 11.08 seconds, just .03 behind the winner, Chaffey College's Walter Ford (11.05). White also performed well in the 200 and placed second with a time of 22.35.

It was a 3-4 finish for the Pirates in the 3,000 as distance specialists Lucio Ramirez (8:46.12) and Brandon Ferguson (8:51.33) each cracked the top-five.

Other top-five performances for Coast include Hunter Gist in the high jump (3rd, 6-3 1/2), Noah Rogers in the high jump (5th, 5-11 3/4), Daniel McNabb in the 400 (5th, 57.25), Ryan Nicholson in the shot put (5th, 43-0 1/2) and Jesus Valdez in the 3,000 steeplechase (5th, 10:10.47).

The Pirates will return to competition on March 13-14 at Cal State Fullerton's Ben Brown Invitational.
