Pirates roll past Hornets, 21-9

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's water polo team made a rare home appearance count with a convincing 21-9 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Fullerton College on Wednesday afternoon.

Ahead 3-2 early in the contest, the Pirates (4-1, 1-0 in OEC) ripped off seven straight goals and never looked back the rest of the way.

Alexander Madej led the Pirates' offense with five goals, while Ilan Dayan added four goals and Devin Dayan chipped in three to go along with a team-best eight assists.

While the OCC offense was clicking on all cylinders, goalie Alexander Furlong minimized damage on the other end with 17 saves.

For the Hornets (6-6, 0-2), Gunnar Abato had three goals, while Chance Lyster added two goals.

Fullerton cut the deficit in half at 10-5 before Coast went on another offensive run (5-0) to go ahead 15-5. Three goals from Madej and solo tallies by Ariel Ghelfond Levi and Logan Piper highlighted that four-minute run of the third quarter.

Coast will return to action on Friday at the Cerritos Mini-Tournament and will take on the host Falcons, beginning at 9:30 a.m. That match can be followed live at www.socalcollegesports.com
