Pirates go 3-1 at Cuesta Invitational

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The Orange Coast College men's water polo team went 3-1 at last weekend's Cuesta College Water Polo Invitational, topping Sierra College (11-6), Santa Rosa (14-9) and Ohlone (14-6) before falling to host Cuesta (15-14).

In the win over Sierra, Austin Wing led the Pirates with three goals, while Nathan Britton, Jake Davis and Logan Piper each added two goals.

In the win over Santa Rosa, Brandan Rafferty had a team-best three goals, while Davis and Wing chipped in a pair of goals each. 

Ilan Dayan had three goals to lead OCC past Ohlone, while Ryan Balajadia and Kevin Dayan each added two goals. Eleven other Pirate players had one goal in a well-balanced offensive performance.

In the finale against the host Cougars, Wing and Davis each had three goals, while Dayan, Piper and Luke O'Connell each had two goals.

For the weekend, OCC goalie Alexander Furlong notched 47 saves throughout the four matches. 

The Pirates (9-7 overall) will return to Orange Empire Conference action on Wednesday at Saddleback College, beginning at 4 p.m. before hosting Grossmont on Saturday at 11 a.m. in a nonconference matchup.
