Pirate men take fourth at Fresno Invitational

FRESNO -- Running the same course as the 2014 CCCAA State Meet, the Orange Coast College men's cross country team got a lay of the land on Saturday and finished fourth overall at the Fresno Invitational.

Coast finished 127 points in the 19-team event, trailing only College of the Canyons (64), Mt. San Antonio (80) and American River (108).

The Pirates were led by a pair of top-five performances, turned in by sophomores Brandon Ferguson and Lucio Ramirez. Ferguson took on the four-mile course and finished third overall with a time of 20 minutes, 36.4 seconds, just six seconds behind eventual winner, Diego Leon of Hartnell (20:30.2).. Ramirez was close behind and finished fifth with a time of 20:53.8.

Other top performances for the Pirates included Jesus Valdez (21:57.6), Jorge Jeronimo (22:09.9), Efrain Vargas (22:23.7), Ryan Ogan (22:34.3), Daniel Vargas (22:48.2), Braiden Chadd (23:11), Alex Perez (23:29.7), Gonzalo Vazquez (23:31.2), Hunter Durand (23:59.3) and Dakota Gamble (24:39.8).

The Pirates will take this weekend off from the competition, but will head out to Woodley Park in Van Nuys for the SoCal Preview Meet, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 19 at 8 a.m.
