Pirates take fourth at GWC Invitational

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- A strong performance from Brian Soriano-Guzman highlighted a solid morning of competition for the Orange Coast College men's cross country team as the Pirates finished fourth overall at the Golden West College Invitational on Friday.

Soriano-Guzman was in the top trio of runners, along with Cuyamaca's Ataklty Gebru and Riverside's Gavyn Condit and at the end of the 4-mile course, the Pirate sophomore took the runner-up spot with a time of 20 minutes, 41.38 seconds, behind Gebru (20:36.24) and ahead of Condit (20:42.48). No other runner in the 89-runner field cracked 21 minutes against the Central Park course. 

Pirate sophomore August Garcia finished 17th overall with a time of 21:57, while Carlos Ramos (26th, 22:21.02) and Raoul Kelly (30th, 22:43.31) finished in the top-30 in a very tough field of schools.

Other top OCC times included Cole Ridenour (23:02.16), Damian Martinez (23:19.4), Hector Espana (23:27.42), Connor O'Brien (23:47.78), Miguel Zarco (23:58.07), Zach Lang (24:08.45), Emiliano Gonzalez (24:28.14), and Kevin Carrera (25:27.67).

The Pirates will return to action on Friday at the SoCal Preview Meet at the Kern County Soccer Park in Bakersfield, beginning at 9 a.m.
