Pirates finish 14th at CCCAA State Meet

FRESNO -- The Orange Coast College men's cross country team wrapped up a successful 2022 season by earning a trip to the 2022 California Community College Athletic Association State Meet on Saturday at Woodward Park, where the Pirates finished 14th overall.

A pair of Pirate sophomores -- Brian Soriano-Guzman and Hector Espana -- battled the 4-miles course, the top athletes in the state, and each other down the final stretch, with both runners finishing in the top-50. Soriano-Guzman placed 47th overall with a time of 21 minutes, 22.5 seconds, with Espana right on his heels with a 48th-place time of 21:22.6.

Just 10 seconds behind was sophomore teammate August Garcia, who finished with a 21:32.8, while fellow sophomore Cole Ridenour came in with a time of 22:37.2.

A trio of freshman -- Raoul Kelly, Carlos Ramos and Damian Martinez -- got their first taste of the CCCAA State Meet and all three handled the conditions well. Kelly finished with a time of 22:48.4, just ahead of Ramos (22:55.9) and Martinez (22:59.2).
