Pirates men capture third overall at SoCal Preview Meet

LONG BEACH -- It was a very solid performance for the Orange Coast College men's cross country team as the Pirates finished third overall at the 2023 Southern California Regional Preview Meet, which took place on Friday at El Dorado East Regional Park.

Coast took home the team bronze with a score of 117 points, trailing only Bakersfield (59 points) and San Bernardino Valley (97 points) in the 27-team race that featured over 250 runners. 

Freshman Jimmy Dominguez took on the elite field and a daunting 4-mile course and finished third overall with a time of 20 minutes, 7.5 seconds, just 10 seconds off of the top time, turned in by Cuesta's Anthony Erikson (19:57.4). Bakersfield's Nathanael Rodriguez finished second overall with a time of 19:58.6.

Fellow freshman Carlos Ramos cracked the top-20 with a 14th-place time of 20:31.5, while William Spangler (32nd, 21:03.4), Don Molina (36th, 21:12:6) and Viencent Luong-Kha (39th, 21:17.2) earned crucial points for the Pirates. 

Other top Pirate performances were turned in by Lance Copp (21:35.7), Farhaan Safi (21:48.3), Caden Guardino (22:04.5), Andrew Hernandez (22:34.6), Damian Martinez (22:45.8) and Emiliano Gonzalez (24:08.7).

Coast will return to competition on Friday at the Golden West College Invitational on Friday at Central Park in Huntington Beach, beginning at 9 a.m.
