Pirates take fifth at OEC Preview Meet
HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Against some of the top runners in all of Southern California, the Orange Coast College men's cross country earned a solid fifth-place team performance at the Orange Empire Conference Preview Meet on Friday at Central Park.
Led by a pair of top-20 finishes, the Pirates earned the No. 5 spot in the 24-team field with a score of 130 points, trailing only Cerritos (83), Riverside (96), San Bernardino Valley (97) and Bakersfield (121). El Camino (179) finished sixth, followed by Glendale (189), Cuyamaca (198), Saddleback (271) and College of the Canyons (324).
OCC's Moises Bailon and Lance Copp earned the top two spots in the finishing order for the Pirates. Bailon finished 16th overall with a four-mile time of 21 minutes, 23.58 seconds, with Copp close behind in 17th place with a time of 21:15.52.
Chance Callinan finished 33rd with a 21:56.94 for the third OCC team finish, followed by Farhaan Safi (22:24.2) and William Spangler (22:31.31).
Other top Pirate teams included William Dang (22:46.83), Andres Guillen (23:00.06), Peter Cao (24:27.67) and Ramsey Serrano (24:47.64).
The Pirates will get a bit of time off from competition, but will race again on Friday, Oct. 11 at the San Diego Mesa Invitational, down at Liberty Station Park, beginning at 10 a.m.
