Pirate bats come alive in win over El Camino

COSTA MESA -- Jessica Morrow called it and Katie Kendrick delivered. With Morrow in the dugout and the bases full of Pirates, Morrow said to nobody in particular, "hit a grand slam" and on the next pitch, Kendrick came through, highlighting OCC's first softball win of the season, 13-4, in five innings over visiting El Camino on Wednesday afternoon.

Kendrick's big blast was the crown jewel in a six-run third inning and it helped cap off the biggest offensive outpouring for the Pirates in 2013. In four innings of at-bats, Coast ripped 17 hits and scored 13 runs, with Kendrick leading the way thanks to a 3-for-3 day with two runs scored and four RBI.

Kristin Nance went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, Caitlyn Kelley added two hits and three runs, Rebecca Kendrick added three hits and a run and Alexis Ortega and Nicole Watkins each provided two hits and RBI.

Crystal Ornelas picked up the win for the Pirates, allowing no earned runs on three hits in three innings of work.

The Pirates will be back in action on Monday against Golden West, beginning at 3 p.m.
