Pirates finish third at OEC Women's Golf Finals

CHINO HILLS -- After a grueling 36-hole battle, the Orange Coast College women's golf team finished third overall at the 2016 Orange Empire Conference Championships with a team score of 712.

After a rough opening round at Alta Vista Country Club where the Pirates shot a 362 and sat in fourth place, Coast trimmed 12 shots off and shot a 350 on Day 2 at Los Serranos Country Club and finished tied for third with Irvine Valley (359-353-712). Coast won the tiebreaker on its fifth-golfer score (102-125) to earn the No. 3 spot in the final standings.

Calyn Hockerson picked a good time for her best round of the season and fired a 79 at Los Serranos after carding an 88 on Day 1 for a team-best, two-day total of 167. Her 167 was tied for the sixth-lowest among all competitors at the OEC finals.

Close behind Hockerson was teammate Lina You, who shot an 85-83-168 for her two-round performance. Other top scores for OCC included Tiffany States (94-93-187), September Mirghanbari (95-95-190) and Breanna Gutierrez (105-102-207).
