Pirates place second overall at CMCC

COSTA MESA – Low scores were available for the taking on Monday under warm and breezy conditions at Costa Mesa Country Club's Mesa Linda Course as the top women's golfers from around the Orange Empire Conference went at for their third matchup of the season.

In the end, it was the Saddleback College Bobcats who showed their depth of talent to once again top the field with a team score of 321, a full 20 shots ahead of runner-up and host, Orange Coast College (341). Close behind was Fullerton College (349), followed by Mt. San Jacinto (357), College of the Desert (360), Mt. San Antonio (374) and Cuyamaca (394).

The Pirates (10-8) picked up another solid round of golf from sophomore returner, Meah Collins, who carded a 5-over-par, 76, one of  five golfers to shoot in the 70s on the short-but challenging Mesa Linda Course. Just off of Collins' pace was teammate Emma Ashcraft, who carded an 81, followed by Lexi Jaeger (91), April Garcia (94), Michelle Manzo (98) and Coco Fulton (130).

Low score of the day went to Mt. San Antonio's Kayla Loera, who fired a 1-over, 71.  COD's Demi Preece and Fullerton's Catherine Lee each shot a 76, Saddleback's Nicole Whipple and Sabrina each shot a 78 to cap off the sub-80 scores for the afternoon.

The same teams will go at it once again on Wednesday at Saddleback's home course, Arroyo Trabuco, beginning at 12 p.m.
