Pirates notch 7-2 win over SD City
SAN DIEGO -- The trip was worth it for the Orange Coast College women's team as the Pirates traveled to San Diego City College and topped the host Knights, 7-2, in a nonconference match on Tuesday.
OCC (5-3) jumped out to a 4-2 lead in singles play, led by returning sophomore Shayee Sharif, who won, 6-0, 6-1. Teammate Jade Moreno pitched a shutout as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Chloe Mason and Christina Nguyen each won by default.
In doubles play, Sharif/Moreno lost just once in an 8-1 win, while Nguyen/Mason slipped past their SDCC opponents, 8-6. OCC's third match was won by default.
The Pirates will return to the Costa Mesa Tennis Center on Thursday against Riverside, beginning at 2 p.m.
