Pirate tracksters roll past Fullerton, Santa Ana
SANTA ANA -- The Orange Coast College men's and women's track and field teams won 26 of 36 events during Friday's Orange Empire Conference meet with Fullerton College and host Santa Ana College.
On the women's side, there were plenty of victories to go around for the Pirates.
Coast opened the running events with a solid win in the 400 relay as the group of Monica Ayala, Mychal Robinson, Gaby Ojeda and Maya Iddins crossed the tape with a winning time of 51.25.
Standout sophomore Alyssa Allen cruised to a 20-second win in the 1,500 with a time of 4:52.63, well ahead of runner-up Toni Lopez of Santa Ana (5:12.29). In the 3,000, Allen topped OCC teammate Karen Cruz with a winning time of 10:55.5.
Robinson helped lead a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 100 hurdles with a winning time of 15.17, while Ayala took home the top time in the 400 (1:04.34).
It was another OCC-only event in the 400 hurdles as Penny Barnes led the way with a top time of 1:08.22.
Lauren Delgadillo battled SAC's Cyndee Wallace (27.16) in the 200 before taking home the top spot with a time of 26.54. Delgadillo also was the top performer in the long jump with a winning distance of 16-feet, 8 1/2-inches. In the triple jump, Delgadillo completed the hat trick with a winning mark of 32-5.
The OCC quartet of Ayala, Barnes, Iddins and Robinson led from start to finish against Fullerton to win with a time of 4:24.87.
In the field events, Maddy Carbajal cleared the field by three feet in the javelin throw, taking first with a throw of 89-0.
Iddins showed off her vertical in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4-5 for the top mark.
In the pole vault, Ayala cleared 7-11 1/2 for first place.
The Pirates will travel to Cal State L.A. to compete in the Cal State Los Angeles Invitational on Friday, beginning at 9 a.m.
